Re-Engineered Web Site
Launch Date - 01/14/2010
New Postings Begin Today
On January 13, 2010 (Yesterday), I 'Posted'
the last 'Post' to the 'Open Web Site' -
http://www.trabzonairstation.com . As promised when this
project began, the Site has been on air for five years. A select few
Trabzon Veterans provided the 'Financial Support' for this venture. I have
asked for small 'gifts' through the years and have received very little
response. We are now retired and living on a fixed income such that I can
not afford to keep my many 'Web Sites' 'On-Air' any longer. I have planted
or 'Parked' the remainders of the two 'Web Sites' - this 'Site' and -
http://www.trabzonairstation.net on an inexpensive 'Server'.
They will remain accessible for 2 to 5 years. I will attempt to provide a
'Conduit' or 'Connective Service' through these 'Parked Sites'. I will
provide a 'Message Board' and attempt to relay messages to Trabzon Veterans.
Email me with 'Messages' and I will attempt to 'Post' them on the 'Message
Board'.

The cost of collecting all of these
memories of Trabzon Air Station has been great. I have spent 1000s of
hours and 1000s of dollars of my own resources while compiling this great
treasure and record of the 'Life Cycle' of Trabzon Air Station. Only five
Trabzon Veterans contributed financially to this project while fifty others
contributed photos, stories, and documentation in many forms. Sixty plus
Trabzon Veterans allowed me to add them to the 'Duty Roster'. A number of
'Guests' contributed to this 'Treasure Chest'. Even our tailor's son, Tom
Sabri, sent us 39 photos of Trabzon as it looks today. It was great to
communicate with Tom. He was a common connection for all of us because
almost every Trabzon 'GI' visited with Tom at least once while at Trabzon.
Tom died May 2, 2009.
As these Web Sites approach their fifth
birthday, I have allowed them to 'Fade Away'. The response was greater
than I had expected in some respects and yet very discouraging in other ways.
I am thankful that I have had this opportunity. As we all get older, many
of us will start to see value in these memories. Some of us will
eventually want to share these memories with our children and grand children.
I have reconnected with many 'old friends' as have many of you. I am
starting to receive emails from many who are hoping to reconnect with long
forgotten friends.
I have packaged these memories in a number
of packages. I plan to leave one or two of these sites 'Parked' as
advertising sites through which these 'memories' will be available. I will
make these 'memories' available for 2 to 5 years, depending on how long I can
keep these sites 'parked' for a reasonable fee. I will be 'scaling down'
all expenses during 2010. I will eventually be 'offloading' expenses such
as DSL, Domain Hosting/Registry, and ISPs. When necessary, I will notify
all of you in the 'WWW' of new email addresses and 'snail mail' addresses
through which we can communicate. By 2011, I will be shed of all internet
activity except for access through 'free' WI-FI providers. I will be
traveling as much as possible and will check my email and other personal
business by way of WI-FI. I will attempt to assist all of you in any way
that I can in reconnecting with those who seek to remember and recall those 457
days on 'Boztepe' so many years ago.
Thanks again for sharing these memories,
keep in touch,
Bill 'Smokey' Stover - Trabzon Air Station
Veteran - 1962/1963.
